Misty Copeland began ballet at age 13 — considered late for ballerinas to begin. She took her first ballet class on a basketball court for free while visiting a Boys and Girls Club in San Pedro, California while she and her family were living in a motel. Misty applied to numerous top ballet companies but kept getting rejected because she was told she had the wrong body for ballet. In 2000, Misty’s big break came when she was chosen to join the American Ballet Theatre's Studio Company. #WomensHistoryMonth
