Five years ago this week #sageeleanor was diagnosed with #polymicrogyria and we were told she would most likely never walk, talk, or live on her own. Today she is still non-mobile and considered non-verbal. But she has a pretty clear "ya" sound for "yes" and a pretty consistent "k" sound for ok. She shakes her head clearly for yes and no. She has maybe 50 signs (although many of them look exactly the same). She can use a communication device to communicate a few set things. She knows what she wants and she is persistent and patient and incredibly clever in her attempts at communicating it. She can sit up unsupported for about a minute and can sit with only back support for a few minutes. She loves when we hold her up in a standing position and she will lift her feet and "walk". She's incredibly social and loves meeting and being around people. She adores animals of all kinds. She is the most emotionally, spiritually, and intuitively plugged in child I have ever known. Her smile is contagious and her laugh will crack your heart right open. She gives the best hugs and will even pat your back with her little hand while hugging you. She loves freely. Sometimes I wonder what she would be like without #cerebralpalsy and my heart aches. I don't have an answer to that question; I will never know. But I do know this, I adore who she is right now and I'm so grateful to have her in my life. 💗

  • kmloggsI remember the first time I met Sage. You were living in an apartment in Seattle and I'm not even sure how old she was. The first thing I saw was her 'contagious smile'. It instantly drew me in and filled me with so much love, I almost cried. Every time I think of her I remember that moment. ❤️
