#BetterLetteringCourse Challenge Day 20/31: "I will embrace my uniqueness." (#MarchCreativeMantras)⠀
.⠀
When we're little, we're taught early on about finding the thing that "doesn't belong" in a group of similar things. We're taught to spot the oddball and pull it out of a crowd as not belonging. While the purpose behind the lesson is well-intentioned, I do think it can have a long term effect of viewing things in a way that tends to morph into "I belong because I'm the same" or worse "I don't belong because I'm not the same." We're not taught (at least back in the ancient ages when I was in school) to embrace all the really cool things that make us stand out from each other in a way that appreciates what we each contribute of to the group. I think the lesson in general is changing for kids these days, but it can be hard to feel good about the ways we're not like other people if we were taught to blend in. We have to be super careful not to hide these unique things about us that make us the incredible people we were meant to be. Embracing our uniqueness only adds value to our lives and the lives of those around us as we bring what only we can to what's going on around us.⠀
