thekiltedwoodworkerSlowly but surely, we're making progress on the barn. With the corner post replaced, the wall re-braced, and steps rebuilt, we can put some siding back up temporarily to keep the weather out once again.
We also spent some time dropping trees on the back 30 acres that were topped by the last big storm. One maple and about 6 white oaks, all with 20-25' of clear trunk. We should be able to net about 15 logs we can mill into lumber. Most of that will be siding for the barn. All of it taken without cutting down one healthy tree.
I love the soreness I feel after a hard day of work, outside in the fresh air, cutting down trees and fixing a barn with my brother.

- bradleyworkshopI think I'd make flooring out of that oak though...
- thekiltedwoodworker@bradleyworkshop Oh, we have lots of wooded areas on the farm. Those trees all came from about an acre-sized area. We have another 50+ acres on the farm that need some culling. The plan is to get someone from the forestry department to come out and assess the trees to let us know what can/should be taken out. It's a free service for taxpayers. We will just start using that wood for lumber. And you should see how much firewood we have from all of those tree tops.
