I cancelled my trip to Aceh two days before my flight.
_
Ever since I left Aceh in December, I’d had a deep longing to return – to the blessed place filled with beautiful people and enlightened souls. I wanted to learn from the mosque that survived the tsunami. I wanted to tap on the strength of the spirits which rose and rebuilt after devastation visited. I wanted to cleanse myself and dive in pristine waters. I wanted to do many things.
_
I’d bumped into Idaffi the night I was originally due to leave, and he’d regaled to me his experience in Aceh, where he'd gone in response to the recent earthquake. He’d told me how my name was often brought up in his conversations with the YG team, and my heart ached a dull song. I’d wanted to reconnect with dear friends too – two of whom are Smack & Jeff, the best guides one could have while navigating through the refugee camps in Aceh. But Allah knows best, and He is always kind.
_
Sometimes plans don’t work out. They often don’t. And it’s okay. It’s okay. For there is wisdom in everything, especially in the times we can’t see it. We have such limited vision, don't we?
_
When it’s darkest where you stand, have a little bit of faith. Keep moving though, and you’ll find the light. Either you find a switch, you bump into someone who’s holding a source, or you light from within. There will always be light.
_
Maybe one day I can find the words to articulate the reasons why I cancelled the trip. Not today. Today, I am still healing, and I shall honour it. I didn’t go to Aceh, but oh boy, it’s been an incredible week. I’m exactly where I’m meant to be, and I’m growing in ways I’m meant to grow. Life has her own way of surprising me over the years. I like to be surprised.

& through it all, I still do not love less.
