Bhaona is a folk theatre form from Assam which uses masks. These masks are created on a framework and then made using local mud. The colours are natural and derived from plants and minerals.  These masks come exclusively from the sattras or monasteries of Majuli in Assam.

At the #RangaliAssam Festival in Assam, held earlier this month, I was lucky to come across a short performance. Here Sugriva, the king of the vanars, reacts when he realises that his older brother, Bali is alive !
