Today's #BlackofAllTrades is a nonprofit professional, entrepreneur, writer and world traveler. First learned about her company @lydiaannedesigns thru my wife @chezchelle. Her official bio is below. Get familiar. ---
In 2013, Andrea caught the entrepreneurial bug and launched Lydia Anne, a small business based in Alexandria, Virginia, in collaboration with her cousin and co-founder Susie Yaa Mensah, who is based in Accra, Ghana. Lydia Anne began as a handbag business, which featured wax prints popular in West and Central Africa, but over time, new accessories such as business card holders, mirrors, and other items where incorporated into the collection. Andrea also writes a blog on the Lydia Anne website, titled Thursday’s Thoughts that discusses the ups and downs of owning and operating a small business while having a full-time job.
Lastly, Andrea is in the editing phase of writing a book titled: Global Aspirations (@globalaspiration): How Traveling Abroad Led to an International Career. The book details her experiences volunteering in Lomé, Togo, West Africa in 2006 to gain more international experience. She plans to self-publish the book by the end of 2017.
Andrea received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public administration with a concentration in international development from Michigan State University.
