Common stock funds are the generally regarded as the riskiest because they only invest in stocks, which are riskier than bonds.
The other types of funds all invest in some bonds. Stocks are riskier than bonds because if the company files for bankruptcy, all bond holders are paid before the shareholders.
However, keep in mind that even though common stock funds are riskier, they are also compensated with higher returns than the other funds.
