A plane provided by the French government was used to fly the ashes of Miss Callas to Athens. Her ashes were handed over to her family after an attempt had been made to steal them from the columbarium in Père Lachaise. They were scattered over the Aegean Sea as she requested in her will which stated that she wanted to be "lost in the sea".
