Jane is a 50-year-old wife, mother of three, breast cancer survivor, and pharmacist from Neosho, Missouri. After beating breast cancer last year, she was devastated to be diagnosed with MDS in December 2016. Doctors have determined that she will need a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible. Luckily, both of her siblings are a 100% transplant match and they will move forward with a transplant in the coming months. But there are 14,000 patients out there like Jane who are not as lucky.
Jane’s daughter Sara is a pharmacy student at University of Missouri-Kansas City, and wanted to do something to help the other patients who aren’t as lucky to have sibling matches. In conjunction with APhA-ASP (a student pharmacy group), she is hosting 4 different drives all across Missouri in one week in an attempt to raise awareness about MDS and bone marrow transplants in general.
