Some cedar tree tincture all the way to NYC from Indiana. 🌲🌲🌲 I got the idea for this from my favorite podcast, Gastropod, that looks at food through the lens of science and history. (Highly, highly recommend!! 🙌) One of my favorite episodes is about Native Americans in Minnesota who are rediscovering Native American cuisine and opening a restaurant using native plants that their ancestors used. The episode is both inspiring and sobering and it gave me a lot more to think about when I go in the backyard and use my Edible Plants book.
.
One of the things that stuck out to me in this podcast episode was how the Native Americans used to make cedar tea from tree bark. Thought it would be a cool test for a tincture. (1 part Everclear, 1 part water, handful young cedar branches) It's a lot like the Douglas fir liqueur I made a while ago but will report back on cocktail combinations. :)
