GE pays tribute to legendary aviation engineer Joseph Sorota, who passed away this past weekend at the age of 96. Joe was one of the last living members of the ‘Hush-Hush Boys,' a historic team of engineers that worked on building the first American #jetengine. Although thousands of people worked on the project, only a handful knew what they were actually building and were strictly prohibited from talking about it. "We couldn’t talk to anyone about our work,” said Joe, who joined as employee number 5. “They told us that we could be shot.” Sorota embodies a kind of spirit and curiosity which is unique to #GE employees and we are proud and honored to have worked with a mind like his.
