since 1986, our friend (and OK guest speaker) Jan Johnson has been stewarding the upkeep and protection of the 105-year-old Panama Hotel in Seattle's Nihonmachi district — today, in honor of Fred Korematsu Day, we salute her resolve to safeguard the hundreds of belongings left at the hotel by Japanese-Americans being sent to internment camps in 1942, and to preserve a sense of love and welcoming in architecture
