THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

Davis Lisboa, "Robert Filliou #6 (Paintings)", 2017, oil on canvas, 11,8 x 11,8 x 1.57 in (30 x 30 x 4 cm)

What inspired the work?
The paintings of the German artist Gerhard Richter in which he appropriates photographs of magazines and books and turning them into faded contemporary paintings.

What do you expect your viewers to feel/think?
I hope the viewer understand this painting as an imaginary anti-portrait of Robert Filliou, the French Fluxus artist who created in 1964, "La galerie légitime", a museum within his brain, marked by a hat. My idea is create a series of works that connect with this narrative of artists who create their own institutions.

Why did you choose the medium, the issue, the style?
I love oil painting. It is a very special technique in which the artist takes a long time to obtain good results. I started "The Section Paintings from Davis Museum" around 2011 and I still learning. Oil paintings can be kept in very good condition over time, they can withstand centuries.
