In April 1970, Bobby Seale directed every BPP chapter to open People's Free Medical Clinics. It didn’t matter if you had medical insurance or not, the clinic would serve you either way—this was one of many efforts made by the Black Panthers to mobilize health activism and curb medical discrimination within their communities. In Oakland, the clinic was open 5 days a week, and a number of doctors volunteered to work multiple hours, treat patients, and train volunteer staff. #BlackPanthersAt50
