The Hawley House (1860) in Barrington, IL is one of the only remaining octagon structures in Cook County. Entirely wood-framed and covered with clapboards, the home's most notable features are the intricately carved and jig-sawed brackets supporting the roof of the porch enclosing the house and similarly detailed screens that cover the foundation from view. Structural members of the house are fastened by hand-forged (not machined) flat nails and glue. It is no longer a residence but at least this unique style of architecture is still with us. #octagonhouse #oldhouselove #archi_ologie #nrhp #cutehomes #theamericanhome #historicdistrict #beautifulhomes #barringtonil
