This was snapped during a stop at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, Ohio, two Decembers ago. A brutally cold wind was blowing from Lake Erie, which made the visit a brief one. Even the birds didn’t stay long.

Yes, I was the only one there, a solitude that allowed the entire scene to sink into every exposed pore of my body, quite unlike the scenes I last experienced there, one summer some two decades ago, along the mile-long natural sand beach, Ohio’s longest. I preferred this one.
