tcrwpHappy Monday! This week, meet the lovely Katie Wears. "When I was growing up I loved reading The Baby-Sitters Club, The Boxcar Children, and Nancy Drew. I remember reading these books in the back of my family’s minivan on our road trips (hoping to tune out my three younger siblings). When I am not learning alongside educators and children, you can find me with my family on The St. Lawrence River. In the summer, we spend our time on the boat and in the winter you can find me skiing or at an ice rink with my nephews (fun fact - I competed at Nationals for synchronized skating in 1995). I love the look on a child’s face when they find a book they love or realize they have a story to tell. Nothing makes my happier than reading with my niece and nephews (who, currently, would highly recommend Henry and Mudge or Mercy Watson). Because I grew up around sports, I often think of one of my favorite Wayne Gretzky quotes – “The only way a kid is going to practice is if it’s total fun for him … and it was for me.” My hope is that every child uses the word ‘fun’ when talking about reading and writing. "
