Our family is very lucky. We don't want for anything. We live in a lovely home, always have food to eat, clothes to wear and more books and toys than we probably need. However, I often think about the fact that the kids don't realize how lucky we are and that this is not the norm. The reality is that there are so many people who don't have even the basic necessities. I want the kids to see and understand that there are so many people out there that don't have what we have and that if we are in a position to help, even a little, then we should. Today we started that journey. This morning we drove to the @firstuniteddtes in the downtown east side to volunteer for Feed the Hungry (now known as Peace Meal.) The four of us joined many other volunteers and greeted more than 150 guests as they came in for coffee, juice, lunch and dessert. We helped serve the meal and clean up. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be doing it again. And I hope it's just the first step for the kids in living a life of appreciation, gratitude and helping others. . . . . . . . . . . #peacemeal #volunteering #volunteer #dtes #yvr #downtowneastside #feedthehungry #parenting #lifelessons #family #makingadifference #familylife #motherhood #momblogger #lbloggers #lunch #gratitude
