  • guymartinfan@jemimacjohn @meghanmarkle erm bacon comes from pigs who die by having their throats slit and fish are distressed from the moment they are hooked or netted and often die by having their gills ripped open even hours after being caught. Many fish flip to death, unable to breathe out of water. The ONLY animals killed humanely are cattle and horses killed by a bolt gun to the head. All other meat from; sheep, pigs, poultry and fish die in an inhumane way. I love animals and haven't eaten them in over 20 years. I also don't drink milk as to keep a cow producing milk, she needs to calve once a year. A dairy calf will either be killed for veal after a long road journey to slaughter days after being born (as not the breed used for beef) or they are killed by the 'knackerman' who takes them for the dogs (foxhounds) used by hunts. Thousands of calves a year are killed as a bi-product of the dairy industry. They never taste their mothers milk as YOU have it in tea etc. As for eggs, thousands of newly hatched male chicks are either put into a mincer or blast frozen while still alive to become food for snakes or hawks, because they are a bi-product of the egg industry and obviously only female hens go on to exist in cages to supply eggs. I ran a caged hen rescue where I rehomed thousands of laying hens at under two years old. The farmers dispose of the ill weak birds at this age as they may lay one egg a week less. They go on to be used for soup/baby food/pet food etc and have their bones blasted to get 'mechanically recovered meat'. They will still lay eggs for many more years and make lovely pets but if you saw the state of them when rescued, you'd be mortified and wouldn't want eggs from such malnourished diseased birds and even free range and barn hens do not fare well. Always better to rescue 3 hens via an organisation like #BHWT and let them flourish and provide you with eggs in exchange for a happy life.
