Otter Creek.

The magical fall colors are slowly fading where I am. Branches of the trees are visible in parts of Vermont with the falling leaves. The peak of the color change is probably further down south, where it gets colder a little later.
It is the shortening daytime and colder nights that trigger the color change. The trees stop photosynthesis and lock down communication with the leaves. This reduces chlorophyll content and with it the green color from the leaves diminishes, allowing the other colors such as yellow to unmask. At the same time, with no more communication through the veins, the glucose gets trapped in the leaves of trees, giving the reddish tones.
