After many failed attempts to collect enough funds from donors, the small village of Neils Harbour decided to demolish this lighthouse in favor of a low-maintenance, modern light pole. That is, until a pair of young siblings saw an opportunity to start their own business and run a humble ice cream and baked goods shop in what seems like under 100 sq. ft. of ground space. Because of the two's ingenious idea, they have a thriving business from tourists, some of the best views from Cape Breton, and the honor to maintain and keep this historical and iconic centerpiece of Neils Harbour in place.
