"I love the game of basketball. I enjoy playing the game, watching others play the game and analyzing the game. When I transferred to Timothy, I tried out for the 7th grade team and did not make the team. I tried out again in 8th grade and did not make the team. During a summer basketball camp prior to 9th grade, I had very discouraging experience. This was a turning point moment for me and our family. It could have soured me on the game of basketball forever…but, I did not give up. Upon the advice of a friend, I approached Coach LeGrand to see if there was another way I could participate with the high school team. This past year I completed my fifth season as the TC Varsity team’s stats manager. I attend most every game and document stats for the team. After a game, I compile the data into reports and charts and distribute them to the coaches and media. I could have given up, but I found another way. I could have been frustrated by not being able to play, but I found a way to serve.
This experience has indeed been life changing for me. It has opened the door for me to be the Moody Bible Institute Women’s Basketball team statistician for the past two seasons. I am on the coaching staff of Breakthrough Ministries’ AAU Chicago Raptors team on the west side of Chicago. Most recently, I have begun to coach skills and performance with the Breakthrough youth basketball program. I also assist the Westinghouse College Prep High School coaches with statistical and analytic support.
I hope to make my passion for basketball a significant part of my future and am grateful for Timothy for giving me the opportunity to develop my love for the game." —Erick Weisto • Class of 2015 #ourtimothystory #ourtimothystoryalumni #dupage #storyportrait #timothystoryportrait
