Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) swim amidst boat traffic on the Mahakam River in Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia. Their habitat is heavily impacted by large cargo ships and other diverse vessels, as well as pollution (including from palm oil plantations) and sedimentation. Bycatch in local fisheries is a serious risk to this small population. Local NGO Yayasan Konservasi RASI works with communities and government to improve conservation and local livelihoods.
