It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our South Hill Business Association President, Jack Hilton. Jack died on May 2 of heart failure just days after his heart operation. It was sudden and unexpected and he will be sorely missed by all who came to know his friendly face on Fraser Street. Jack was an impassioned community leader who volunteered much of his time helping to make the business environment on Fraser Street better for everyone, businesses, residents and visitors alike. As the third generation of Hilton property owners on the street, he had a vision of how good it could be and a love of the neighbourhood. Jack never flagged in his energy for many different projects over the years, and worked tirelessly to bring them to fruition. His most recent goal - and it was a big one - was to lead the board of directors and operational team to the successful installation of innovative pedestrian lighting on Fraser Street. Even from his hospital bed, not 48 hours after his operation he called to ask about the project. We shall miss his devotion to people, projects and this place.
A memorial service for Jack will take place Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Mountain View Cemetary in Celebration Hall, 12 noon. Light refreshments will be served after the service. All are welcome. Newly elected SHBA President, Dolly Bains will offer a few words about Jack on behalf of the South Hill (Fraser Street) Business Association.
