Members of Monmouth University, ASNJ and the Gloucester Chapter, and the property owners of Merino Hill conducted shovel testing on Merino Hill today at the site of a former house. Great historic artifacts including a coca cola bottle and a variety of ceramics were found.

Summer is upon us, and that brings a whole new set of essentials out in the field. Here are some of my personal favorites!

1. Tweezers: ticks are the most consistent and punctual field techs in our career, but they have horrible attachment issues. Pluck em off with your hand dandy tweezers and get them AWAY FROM YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUES!

2. Bug spray: speaking of ticks, mosquitos and other flying pests like to boogie with us cool kids, but they're NOT invited!

3. Hat/head covering: sun is a harsh thing, whether it be sunburn or hurting your eyes with her fire power. A hat, a bandana, or any other head covering helps block some of that power out and doesn't boil your brain!

4. Water/electrolytes drinks and powders: now I personally do not love most electrolytes drinks or powders, but water is probably the most important thing to bring to the field. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, and general sluggish feelings in the field are total killers. Hydrate!

5. Sunscreen: long sleeves and hats are the best, but more sun protection is always key. Sunscreen and constant reapplication is the best way to keep you safe and unscathed in the field. Those boils are no joke (literally been burned 1 too many times)
