TUESDAY WITH SAM AND DC: Former #nfl coach Sam Wyche (left) died yesterday at age 74. On February 27, 2018 I had the amazing opportunity to be a fly on the wall as he joined many other friends and teammates to have lunch with Dwight Clark at Margaritaville in Capitola, California. DC was battling #ALS and Sam flew 3,000 miles from his home in South Carolina just to have lunch with the man he helped discover when he was the quarterbacks coach for the #49ers in 1979. These two shared many great stories and laughs during the afternoon. When lunch was over I was pressed into duty by the boss @kirkrgaucho to drive Sam to the San Francisco Airport so he could fly back home. For the next 90 minutes it was just Sam and I in my Honda Pilot with 245,000 miles on it driving from Capitola to SFO, and it could not have been more entertaining. Coach Wyche shared great stories about his days with the 49ers when they practiced in Redwood City, and what is was like to watch Joe Montana drive the 49ers downfield to beat his Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl in Miami in 1989. Having coach captive in my car to hear those stories is something I will never forget.
