Zebra mussels showed up in the Otter Tail River drainage a few years ago and it was only a matter of time before they became well established further downstream.

Here, several zebra mussels have attached to a native Unionid mussel. It is only a matter of time before they suffocate the mussel, usurping all of its food before it has a chance to enter its siphon.
