No studio. No agent. No Hollywood. Before SELMA, my first films were distributed through a grassroots black film collective that I founded called @AFFRM. A bad-ass community of film lovers who stood with me as I put my early work into the world. Without it, I don't know where I'd be. I wonder if I'd smile as much as I do now. Since its inception, @AFFRM has distributed eight films by black indie directors. xo
