The Atlantic Coast Line #501, also known as The Champion, was a passenger diesel locomotive that ran between NYC and Miami, Florida. The CSX predecessor’s engine was painted purple and silver, partly due to the long-time use of purple on Atlantic Coast Line timetables. The #501 operated for over 6 million miles, making it the most-traveled E unit in U.S. history. #RailFanFriday
