Acting Dir. Jared Maples welcomed over 40 members of the Interfaith Advisory Council yesterday at the quarterly meeting hosted in Sayreville, New Jersey. The IAC continues to provide partnering agencies with feedback and insight into the needs of their communities.

During this webinar, we will review how ISIS recruits and leverages both the young and old as fighters. FEATURED SPEAKERS: Mia Bloom | Mia Bloom is a professor at @georgiastateuniversity. Under the auspices of the Minerva Research Initiative (MRI) of Department of Defense, Bloom is currently conducting research with John G. Horgan on how children become involved in terrorist organizations. Bloom has a PhD in political science from Columbia University, a Masters in Arab Studies from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and a Bachelors from McGill University in Russian, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies. Chelsea Daymon | Chelsea Daymon is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication and holds a Masters in Near and Middle Eastern studies from University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and a Bachelors in Oriental Studies from Cambridge University. Her research interests include Islamic movements, terrorism, foreign fighters related to conflicts, radicalization, and de-radicalization. This afternoon NJOHSP representatives presented the 'Know Your Needs: NJOHSP Resiliency Needs Assessment Workshop' at the NJEPA Conference in Atlantic City. Attendees were provided with information and an opportunity to ask questions about training and exercises, facility protection, grant funding, and resource sharing, including the Office’s Hometown Security Initiative.

Episode 13: Vehicular Terrorist Attacks - Strategies for Safety and Survival Terrorists—particularly homegrown violent extremists (HVEs)—will likely continue using vehicles as weapons. Foreign terrorist organizations promote this tactic, past attacks have been successful, and it is easy to get vehicles. An NJOHSP review of vehicle-ramming attacks in the West over the last 10 years found increased use of this tactic and resulting casualties. Intelligence. Unclassified. Episode 12: New Jersey's County Counterterrorism Coordinators In New Jersey, each county has a Counterterrorism Coordinator (CTC), based out of the Prosecutor’s Office. These CTCs serve as the critical link between New Jersey’s municipalities, counties, the State, and the federal field offices. Each CTC works in conjunction with one another and the State to report and investigate suspicious activity occurring. This week, Monmouth County’s CTC Guy McCormick sits down with NJOHSP Intelligence Planner Jeff Elgrim to discuss the role of the CTCs in New Jersey and how the relationship between NJOHSP and the CTCs serves the residents of New Jersey.
