Wonder Woman herself, @reallyndacarter, presented a script for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie on behalf of director Patty Jenkins, along with an original issue of Wonder Woman ’77 #1, and an original illustration by artist Cat Staggs. New online in our rights-free image collections: Take a nostalgia-fueled road trip across America with the John Margolies Roadside America Photograph Archive! Over the span of nearly 40 years, Margolies took more than 11,000 color-slide photographs of vernacular structures across America’s highways, byways and main streets. Traversing the country, he was drawn to the architecture that came to define travel by car—motels, diners and gas stations—but also to quintessentially American oddities: buildings in the shape of dinosaurs, the sculpted concrete and plaster obstacles of miniature golf courses and parks featuring attractions from parrots to petrified rocks. New online! Polish Declarations of Admiration and Friendship for the United States is a unique and beautiful 111-volume, 30,000-page 1926 birthday card to America signed by more than five million citizens of Poland to commemorate the 150th anniversary of U.S. independence and to acknowledge American participation and aid to Poland in World War I. The Class of 1926 digitization project, initiated by the Polish Library in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the Library of Congress and with support from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, has brought this historic collection to researchers all over the world and is accessible at loc.gov/collections/polish-declarations/about-this-collection/. @polishembassyus #poland #collections #independenceday #libraryofcongress #embassyofpoland

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden today announced the appointment of Tracy K. Smith as the Library’s 22nd Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry, for 2017-2018. Smith will take up her duties in the fall, opening the Library’s annual literary season in September with a reading of her work at the Coolidge Auditorium. Smith, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and a professor at Princeton University, succeeds Juan Felipe Herrera as Poet Laureate. #poetlaureate #poetry #LibraryOfCongress
