Today’s errands include: waking up at dawn to cut bay leaves for drying (pictured), making fig jam (soon), and catching up with friends before I head to Michigan (all day). Hours in a day never quite seem to match what needs to be done.
I couldn’t count all the friends that came for the annual solstice party (hosted by @zeldafitzz and @soul.boogie). Flower crowns in tow, we settled in for toasts, dances, and baskets of cheeses, bread, and wine. The city hugged us in a thick fog and tried mightily to resist summer.
While talking to dad — and wishing him the best — I sautéed spinach and am now waiting for my friend to stop by for tea. Then it’s off to hiking.
I put on my swim trunks, brought my sunscreen, and packed a beach towel. The sand swirled around my feet like snow in a blizzard. I remembered that summer at the beach in the Bay Area is really winter by the shore.
I’ve set every pot I own on the stove (and in the oven) filled with this produce. Some are baking, some are sautéing, and I hope all of them will be delicious. 🤞 (Produce from @imperfectproduce ✨)
Today was a work day. I still managed to fit a short but hilly and windy walk back home. Now time to conquer what’s left of the homemade ice cream.
I had every intention of eggs for breakfast but instead Turkish coffee with ice cream was the only thing my kitchen was serving. . . . (This recipe from @food52 and @nigellalawson is the easiest ice cream I’ve ever made. I added a licorice liqueur from Santa Maria Novella and honey and hazelnuts from Turkey — as well as dulce de leche from Uruguay.)
Today I made a no churn ice cream. My punishment for nearly finishing it (only 3 hours after it was made) was a long hike up one of San Francisco’s highest hills.
I had some of the best pies last weekend up near Tahoe. @thehardy took us there and I had slice after slice. And now here I am making mini pies: I’ll make, bake, and freeze them for snack time at a later craving.
I’m zipping around the city doing last minute errands before a trip to Tahoe. The sun is out, but there is a cool breeze in the city. It’s a friend’s bachelor party this weekend, and I hope to make it through unscathed.
It’s a day at home with a fresh batch of cookies and me staring at this little silver spoon I picked up in Georgetown. I’m scrambling through ciphers and stumbling through the pages trying to figure out who, what, where, when. My friend helped me identify most of it, now it’s time to find it inside this book.
Logan Circle is charming. I always forget where it is when I am visiting DC. This day my meanderings placed me right in the middle of it.
