"Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Dance." -Baz Luhrmann, "Everybody's Free (to Wear Sunscreen)"... I've been really trying to put this one into action recently. As time goes by, trends change, and life wears and tears my body, the ways in which I can find peace in the connection between my body and mind will also change. I've never really talked about this before, but I figured now's a good time. Tomorrow is May 1st, which marks the beginning of Arthritis Awareness Month. More than 50 million people in the U.S. suffer from some form of Arthritis. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (now Rheumatoid Arthritis cuz I'm 18 😜) just after I was born. Physical therapy, various medicines, and countless visits to @stchrishospital were on my side throughout my journey. I was never super into sports but I wonder if I subconsciously avoided arenas of physical competition because the competition with my own body was enough. In a way, I think growing up with JRA made me view my body as weak and incapable of performing how I wanted it to. But I've come to a point where I respect my body enough to take care of it, to begin to build it and love it. I've been in remission for a few years now, and I plan on keeping it that way. I'm on a path to strength - body & mind. Feelin' the love, especially from myself, and I hope you all are too. 💪🏻💕🔮💫🥑🌻💗
